30 Day Book Meme, Day 15

Favorite male character:

I’ve always felt a connection to Mr. Darcy. Not just because of Colin Firth or the way he holds back from all the social bullshit that goes on around him, but because I feel like Mr. Darcy and me, we’ve got some things in common. We’re pretty socially inept, we spend parties standing in corners talking smack on everyone around us, and we do a poor job of explaining ourselves (leading with the most insulting details of our remarks first, in an effort to alienate our audience). I’ve long felt that if everyone who thinks I am an asshole just read Pride & Prejudice and paid close attention to the Mr. Darcy bits – you know, when we learn that he’s not an asshole, he’s just an introvert with a habit of saying stupid things – they would come to understand that, like Mr. Darcy, I have a good heart.

Am I identifying with Darcy too much here? Maybe (read: definitely), but did you really expect me to pass up the opportunity to declare that I’m the female version of Colin Firth?
